“The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” ~Psalm 145:18 

As I continue to prepare for a major powerlifting competition, I am at the place where all the weights I work with are quite heavy. Sam loads the bar then tells me how many reps to do in each set. But he never walks away and just expects me to complete the set on my own. When I am bench pressing and there are 200+ pounds on the bar, I can rest assured that Sam is right there, hovering over me, ready to assist as I need it. Sometimes his hands are just below the bar but never touch it in the hope that I can make the lift on my own. Sometimes if I am struggling to get it all the way up, he will lightly touch the bar with his fingers to give a tiny bit of help to finish the lift. Other times, when my strength is just gone and it is obvious that I am going to fail, he will grab the bar with both hands and add his strength to get the bar back on the rack. Whatever I need and whenever I need it, Sam is right there to get me through the set! 

As a child of God, I have an even stronger Helper in my life. He is called “a very present help” in Psalm 46:1. I am assured that “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” I may not always feel His presence, but the Scripture promises that He is ALWAYS nigh unto me! And unlike a weightlifting scenario, I ALWAYS need the Lord, for without Him I can do nothing! (John 15:5) 

Let us take some time to rejoice in the truth that the Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon Him!
