The Secret of God
“Hast thou heard the secret of God?” ~ Job 15:8a
At least nineteen times, the Bible refers to “the secret things of God”. This tells us that there are some things that are known only to God. It is with this in mind that Job’s ‘friend’, Eliphaz, asked the above question of Job. In essence, he was questioning, in an accusatory manner, if Job was presuming to know those things that are known only to God.
Eliphaz’ nasty use of this truth aside, it is important for the believer to remember that the thoughts of God are so much higher than our thoughts. He sees the things that we must only accept by faith and yet we are assured in Scripture that His thoughts towards us are precious and wonderful! For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. (Jeremiah 29:11)
As we navigate through uncertain situations and difficult times, it is important to remember that God sees the reasons that are beyond our comprehension! He follows a plan that always keeps Romans 8:28 in motion! But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. ~ 1 Corinthians 2:9.
For those times when I do not understand and the answer to my questions does not seem to come, there is the Scriptural assurance that “the secret things belong unto the LORD our God:” ~ Deuteronomy 29:29 Because He is a good God, I can safely and joyfully trust that He knows the secrets that I cannot see!
