“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.” ~ Psalm 62:5 

We know that this Psalm was penned by David, and although we do not know the exact circumstances in which it was birthed, we can glean that David was going through a trial. He refers to those who were striving and plotting against him, especially those who were badmouthing him. (62:4) They pretended to be his friends but in reality they were seeking his downfall. False and faithless “friends” often cause the deepest hurts! 

In times of trouble, we often find ourselves searching for answers and help. We reach out to friends, counselors, and far too often social media in the hope that someone will champion our cause and rise to our defense. While solid, faithful friends are truly a great blessing, David cautions us to make the Lord Himself our one true confidant and hope. “Wait thou only upon God”! 

 Even the best of men and most well intentioned of friends will fail us or even give us faulty counsel from time to time. It is only the Lord who will never fail and never lead us astray. It is the Lord against whom all other counsel and hope should be measured for it is only the Lord Who is always right! 

 It is because of His faithfulness and truthfulness that those who wait only upon Him can rest in calm assurance that He will be a safe refuge!
