Love, Joy, Peace...
When You Walk In Darkness
“Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.” ~ Isaiah 50:10
This verse is directed at sincere believers who fear and obey their Lord but find themselves walking in darkness. They are like David who spoke of a time when he walked “in the valley of the shadow of death”. Gone, for the moment, are the days of sunshine and peace. In their place there is a season of darkness, whether it be the gloomy shadow of death, the clouds of despair, or the nightfall of indecision and fear. Even our Savior experienced such days as he was described as a “man of sorrows and acquainted with grief”.
It is during these dark times in life that we must tread carefully lest we stumble or even veer from the path of righteousness. As I have been hiking in the woods in recent days, I find the trail is often covered by fallen leaves. I must slow down and pay close attention to each and every footfall lest I trip on a root or stumble over a stone. It is easy to fall when one is not being watchful.
Isaiah gives us hope for the dark moments. He teaches us to “stay” upon our God. That means “to lean upon or to rest”. Sometimes the safest thing is just to be still and to know in your heart that He is still God! He instructs us to trust in the name of the LORD. The Bible is filled with the names of our God, each one revealing some precious truth about His nature and power.
Trust Him. He is always there! He will keep you safe! And when the time comes, he will bid the darkness flee and show you His perfect plan!
