“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” ~ Romans 8:37 

In November 2000, America witnessed the closest Presidential election in US History! It would take over a month for the winner to be decided after the ballots in the state of Florida were counted and recounted. When all was said and done, George Bush won Florida by 537 votes, and it took a ruling by the Supreme Court to finalize the election. In the electoral college Mr. Bush won by only 5 votes. George Bush certainly won, but by the “skin of his teeth”! Compare that to Ronald Reagan’s victory in the 1984 election against Walter Mondale. Mr. Reagan won 527 electoral votes to his opponent’s 13! Reagan won 49 of the 50 states. It was the greatest landslide victory in American Presidential history! 

I have often wondered what the Lord meant by “more than conquerors” in Romans 8:37. This snippet of history helped me see that God gives us the victory over the world, the flesh, the devil, and even hell itself, not by a razor thin advantage but by an unmistakable landslide! God’s grace is so sufficient for us that no trial, no persecution, no person, no struggle, and no situation can separate us from His love! That same grace empowers us to live godly in the face of ungodliness, to stand in the face of impossible odds, and to know peace in the fiercest of storms! 

We are conquerors, yea more than conquerors, not through our own wisdom or strength, but through our Lord Jesus Christ! What a promise! What a truth! What a Savior!
