A Waiting God
“And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.” ~ Isaiah 30:18
We are familiar with the exhortations of Scripture to “wait upon the Lord”. In fact, that teaching is found a whopping 294 times in the Bible! Clearly, God knows that this is something we are not very good at and so He reminds us of it quite often. But in Isaiah 30:18, it is the Lord who is the One who is waiting, not the believer. And He is waiting for us.
When I am out in public with other people, sometimes they forget that I am an amputee and I cannot always keep up with their pace. When that happens, they will generally stop and wait until I can catch up and we will begin again.
Sometimes, perhaps quite often, the Lord must do the same for us.
He must wait until we grow in our understanding before He can show us great and mighty things. He must wait until we turn from our own way of doing things to follow in His footsteps. He must wait until we look to Him in prayer after we have wasted our time trying to manage on our own.
He could simply leave us behind, but He is too gracious for that! He loves us too much and has so much He cannot wait to show us. So, He waits.
Let us not keep Him waiting any longer! We are missing out on too many blessings as it is!
