“The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” ~ Jeremiah 31:3 

In a devotional I read this morning I found this phrase, “believing that God’s love is complete”. In context the article was about trusting the Lord even when we can’t sense His presence or understand His dealings with us. At such times we are prone to doubt Him and even stray from him. According to the author, one of the remedies for that spiritual anxiety is to believe that God’s love is complete. That phrase, along with the Scripture of Jeremiah 31:3 has captured my thoughts today. 

We live in an imperfect world that is replete with countless people trying to win or win back the love of another. Because of human frailty there is often a sense of fear and worry that we will lose or lessen the depth of love that someone else feels about us. That produces insecurity, fear, worry, doubt, and a host of other problems. 

God’s love is not like our human love. When He says that He has loved us with an everlasting love, that means His love has no beginning and will have no end. There will be no lessening or losing it. It is complete. 

There is nothing we can do to earn it, increase it, or decrease it. It is complete. What a blessed assurance this writer feels in knowing that my God loves me so completely. I am safe, secure, and settled in His embrace! That knowledge bolsters my trust in everything about Him! There is where we should all rest!
