The Focus of Faith
“But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.” ~ Matthew 14:30
That night, on the stormy sea, Peter displayed a measure of faith that none of the other disciples possessed. Despite the winds and the waves, at the command of Jesus, Peter stepped over the sides of that boat and began to walk on the water! Faith allows the ordinary believer to accomplish the unthinkable in the power of God!
But in that sublime moment, Peter took his eyes off of the Savior and began to focus on the boisterous wind. It must have been howling and throwing up a chilling spray of water in that dark hour. Once he lost his focus on Jesus and shifted it to the wind, his faith was replaced with fear, and he began to sink.
Please take note that Jesus had not changed. The command of Christ had not changed. The wind had not changed. The only thing that did change was the focus of Peter’s faith! We must always take care lest the winds and waves of life distract us from the presence, the person, and the power of God!
We live in an ever changing world but we serve an unchanging God! May our faith be as changeless as He is!
