“If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.” ~ Daniel 3:17-18 

In this remarkable passage we see two of the many sides of Faith. There is the confidence in the power of God to do anything and everything. It is a power that is formidable and unopposable. It is “exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask or think”. It is in this faith that we pray, take our stand, and commit our lives to Jesus Christ! 

But there is also the confidence that God may not do things the way we anticipate or hope, but it is still steadfast and sure in the knowledge that God’s ways are always perfect and that He works all things together for good to them that love God. In his deep trials, Job uttered similar words when he said, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him.” (Job 13:15)  

These seem like contradictions, but they actually demonstrate an unshakeable faith in the goodness, power, and purpose of God. This faith can confidently pray for the impossible while at the exact same time trust in the loving care of God that He will always do what is best for His children even if it is not what we expected! 

May God grant us such a bold, confident, and powerful faith!
