Love, Joy, Peace...
Tested By Delay
“And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.” ~ Hebrews 6:15
The first time Abraham appeared in the Bible, he was given a promise by God that he would have a son, a “seed”, to carry on his family name until one of his descendants, “THE Seed”, would become the Messiah. Abraham believed that promise and based his entire future upon it. We do not know what Abraham expected about the promise of a son, but we do know that he was one hundred years old before it was fulfilled. Decades went by with no child, during which time the Bible says, “he had patiently endured”.
The Bible is filled with examples of men and women who were given promises by the Lord, who had prayed according to His will, and who lived by faith, yet their prayers were not answered, and the will of God was not fulfilled for many years. Joseph waited 22 years before his dreams became reality. David waited almost a decade and a half before he became king, and Abraham waited until he was 100 to hold the child God had promised him.
Delay is often a great test of our faith. We are so driven by our fast-paced way of life, that we find it almost intolerable to have to wait for anything. Yet the Bible teaches us over and over again to “wait, I say, upon the LORD”!
Child of God, do not allow impatience to stifle your faith and hope! Keep on praying, keep on trusting, and keep on living for God and you too will “obtain the promise”!
