“My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.” (Proverbs 1:8-9) 

King Solomon, the wisest king to grace the throne of Israel, wrote about mothers fourteen times in the Book of Proverbs! In every instance he urged his readers to take the counsel and influence of their mothers to heart. Those who did were assured of blessing and honor in their own lives. Those who did not were equally assured of a great stain upon themselves. 

Throughout the Word of God we read of so many great ladies who were used of God to influence entire nations through their children. Ladies like Sarah, Rachel, Rebekah, Hannah, Mary, Lois, and Eunice are set forth as women of faith and faithfulness who made such wonderful impressions upon their sons and daughters! The Isaacs, Jacobs, Samuels, and Timothys of Scripture were given incredibly firm foundations through the testimonies and teachings of their mothers. 

Today as we honor the mothers who have influenced us, may we give heed to the instruction of Solomon. May we never forsake their teachings, may we never take lightly their influence, and may we never take their presence for granted!
