“…by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer” ~ Psalm 17:4b 

Between the church and my home in Meriden there is currently a lot of road construction. It is not unusual to find the main routes narrowed down to one lane with bumper-to-bumper traffic. I have found myself activating Google Maps on my car to help me decide which route to take home. Sometimes I feel like I’m taking all the back roads because all the other routes are bogged down with heavy delays. Many times, as I travel, I have a course locked in, but a notification will come up on the screen that there is an accident or some other delay, and it will suggest an alternative route that will save me some time. The app I use is connected to satellites that can see what lies ahead and direct me accordingly. 

In life’s journey, we often cannot see beyond the step right in front of us. The future is unknown. Tomorrow may bring joy and gladness, but it may also bring heartache, stress, or trouble. Add to that, we also have an adversary who seeks to destroy us, rob us of our joy, and direct us away from the perfect will of God. With all these unknown factors we could easily miss our way or fall into the tempter’s snares. 

But our God has given us something far more reliable than Google Maps to guide us on our way! He has given us the perfect Word of God to be “a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” David testified that the “word of his lips” had kept him from the paths of the destroyer! Since the “law of the Lord is perfect” we can trust it with absolute certainty in all matters of life! 

May the Lord grant us the wisdom to follow the guidance of His Word so that we may safely complete our journey!
