Love, Joy, Peace...
The Power of Godly Parents
“For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.” ~ Proverbs 4:3
Solomon was one of the greatest kings, if not the greatest, of his generation. His wisdom from God is legendary. His wealth was unrivaled, his fame was world-renowned, and his majesty was beyond description. As a young man he had such a close walk with God that the Lord Himself gave him the nickname of “Jedidiah” which means “beloved of the Lord”. What a tremendous testimony Solomon had as he ascended the throne of Israel. He would build the famed Temple in Jerusalem, expand the borders of Israel to their greatest extent in all that nation’s history, and bring wealth and prosperity to his people as no one had or ever has done.
It is Solomon who penned the Book of Proverbs under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. In that important book of Wisdom, Solomon made a simple, yet powerful statement. As he encouraged his son, and by extension all the sons of God to seek after wisdom, he reflected on his own heritage. “For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.” David and Bathsheba, the parents of Solomon, were not perfect parents, but overall, they were sincere in their love for God and in their commitment to God’s Word! They were Solomon’s role models and inspiration in his own walk with the Lord!
On this Mother’s Day, as we honor those precious and important ladies, we are reminded of the responsibilities, the roles, and the raw power that both parents manifest in their children’s lives! May God grant us the desire, the strength, and the wisdom to direct our children into a life of devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ!
How wonderful it will be if our own children will one day point to us, their parents, as the reasons why they love the Lord!
