Can They See Jesus?
“And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David…” ~ 1 Samuel 18:28a
We have a wonderful promise in the Bible that when we are saved, the Holy Spirit makes His dwelling inside of us. Our bodies become the temple of the Holy Ghost (1 Cor. 6:19) and the Savior taught that He abides with us forever! (John 14:16) Every true believer in Jesus Christ can Scripturally make the claim that “the Lord is with me”!
Throughout the Bible there are a great many people of whom it was said that the Lord was with them. Isaac, Joseph, Joshua, Samuel, Jehoshaphat, and the Christians who took the Gospel to Antioch. As I searched this wonderful list of saints, I was struck by the fact that in almost every case the people around them “saw” that the Lord was with them. Even a stubborn, backslidden man like King Saul could see that the LORD was with David. Potiphar, the jailor, and the Pharaoh of Egypt all “saw” that the Lord was with Joseph!
How was that possible? How could they see “Him who is invisible”? There was no halo, no aura, no shining light that surrounded these individuals. That is the stuff of paintings and fiction. But clearly, there was something about them that demonstrated beyond any doubt that God was with them!
In David’s case, it was seen in his wise behavior, his devotion, his faithfulness, and his entire spirit! In Joseph’s case it was seen in his faithfulness in the midst of his many trials. In Samuel’s case it was seen in his obedient response to the Words of God!
The question that each of us should consider today is, “Can others see Jesus in me?”
