Glorify the Lord in the Fires
“Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea.” ~ Isaiah 24:15
As Isaiah spoke through the divine lens of prophecy, he foretold difficult days ahead for the people of God. There would be many enemies, hardships, and trials that they would face. There would be times when they could see no end in sight, but they were assured that He who knows the end from the beginning would not fail them nor forsake them. Their darkness would be turned into dawning, their pain into praise, and their struggles into salvation! With many such words of hope, the prophet encouraged the people of God with the command, “Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires,”.
It is easy to glorify and praise the name of the Lord when all is well, it carries a much stronger impact when the chosen of God glorify Him in the fires! Stephen did that in Acts 7, even as the enemies of the cross gnashed upon him with their teeth and crushed his body with stones! The three Hebrews did that in Nebuchadnezzar’s furnace and the Son of Man Himself showed up to deliver them! Joseph glorified His God in Potiphar’s house a slave, in the prison as a servant, and in Pharaoh’s house as second in command.
We glorify God in the fires when we hold fast to our faith. We do so by remaining faithful, even when we do not understand. Paul and Silas did so by praying and praising in the prison with just as much fervor and joy as they did the moment the demon was cast out of that young woman a few hours prior!
May God grant us the faith and grace to bring honor and glory to His Name, even in the fires!
