Love, Joy, Peace...
Who Will YOU Turn To?
“And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?” ~ Isaiah 10:3
Asa was the king of Judah, and in his early years he was greatly blessed by the Lord because he had such a heart for God. He enjoyed a long period of peace and prosperity because of he sought the Lord so passionately.
Then a strange thing happened. The king of Israel to his north built fortified cities along their shared border and set about to invade Judah. When Asa heard of this, without any hesitation at all, he sent a message to the king of Syria to come and help him. He even plundered the treasures of the Temple to send a great sum of silver and gold as payment for the Syrian king’s help. There was no prayer. There was not seeking of the Lord’s help. Instead of turning to the Lord for help, he turned to a king whose people had been traditional enemies of Israel and Judah.
Although Isaiah 10 was not referencing Asa’s foolish move, it does ask the question, “In times of need, stress, trouble, and worry, “to whom will ye flee for help?” Will you run to the credit card, the bottle, the pain killers, the world, social media or will you run into the everlasting arms of your loving heavenly Father?
Is the Lord our last resort or our first and only resort?
